Amlin to Open Singapore Office
19 July 2007
Amlin plc today announced that subject to approval from the Monetary Authority of Singapore, it is to open an office in Singapore to develop regional business. Amlin Singapore is being established using the existing Lloyd’s Asia platform and will initially write a portfolio of marine business, predominantly energy plus some cargo.
Amlin has appointed Chris Beazley as Managing Director and Principal Officer. He joins from Willis, where he has been a specialist energy broker for the past six years, during which time he has developed a strong local network in the Asia Pacific region as well as excellent relationships with the Amlin marine energy team in London.
It is anticipated that Amlin Singapore will commence operations in the third quarter and, as with Amlin Bermuda, the new operation will adopt the successful core underwriting strategy of the London business. Similarly risk management and infrastructure will mirror those of the Amlin group. The emphasis is on sourcing business from the local market which our research indicates is unlikely to reach the London market.
Charles Philipps, Amlin’s Chief Executive commented: “All the evidence points to Singapore as the major hub for regional business and Amlin intends to be part of this market and to support the platform created by Lloyd’s.”
Chris Beazley said, ”I am pleased to be joining a market leading group such as Amlin and look forward to the challenge of building up our local presence in the Asia Pacific region. Our strategy is to start small and focus on those niche markets where a combination of proven business potential and Amlin’s existing reputation will combine to grow a profitable business over the medium to long term. “
