Organisation
The Group provides capital to support the underwriting of Syndicate 2001 through a number of subsidiaries which are Corporate Members of Lloyd’s. Until 2004, Syndicate 2001 was a joint venture involving Lloyd’s Names, other corporate participants and Amlin. Amlin bought out these other participants in 2002 with an offer which involved the Names retaining an interest in the Syndicate’s underwriting until the end of the Lloyd’s 2003 year of account.
In November 2005, the company established Amlin Bermuda, a reinsurance business capitalised at US$1 billion and rated A (Excellent) by A.M. Best and A by Standard & Poor’s.
Amlin also set up operations in Singapore as part of Lloyd's Asia (2007) to service the admitted and surplus lines markets using the Lloyd's licence. In November 2008 Amlin acquired Anglo French Underwriters, the largest Lloyd's coverholder in France and in July 2009, acquired Fortis Corporate Insurance, a leading provider of corporate property and casualty insurance in the Netherlands and Belgium..
