1903 Coles Syndicate 40 was founded. The Syndicate later became part of the Murray Lawrence Group and is now the Marine division of Amlin. |

| 2000 Amlin disposed of its members' agency activities. Syndicates 902 and 1141 agree merger terms to become part of Syndicate 2001. Syndicate 2001’s underwriting activities are reorganised into four client facing divisions. |

2001 Syndicate 2001 suffers $137.2m* loss from 11 September terrorist atrocities, but still makes a bottom line profit on its 2001 year of account result. | |||
| 2002 Syndicate 2001 capacity is increased by 39% to £800 million. Amlin raises £123.2 million of new equity capital in two share issues. Amlin enters FTSE 250. A successful offer is made by Amlin for the remaining third party capacity on Syndicate 2001. Terms included a one year limited participation right before 100% ownership for 2004 year of account. |
